I came across this technique found in Medicine while watching Grey’s Anatomy. Gosh. It is so gory and I am shocked that this was first carried out as early as 6500 BC. Trepanation is surgery done by drilling through the human skull. I cannot imagine it being done in the past when steriliser and anaesthesia are not yet invented. Imagine the tonnes of bacteria entering through the skull. Would that not cause some infection to the brain at all? Plus the pain that one has to bear when he or she is conscious. Must be immense. Medicine sure does wonders and I am so appreciative of today’s advancement in medicine. But who does not want more when there are still diseases that have yet to find a cure.
